We’d like to take the opportunity to introduce you to the winners of one of our Honorable mentions for the “The Big Tiny Coffee House Challenge” competition - Juthamanee Sawatdeenarumon, Piyapon Yukuntornpanya, Nantarat Wattanakul and Thadcharin Suttapom from Thailand!

We are fourth year students at King Mongkut's institute of technology, one of the most honourable architecture schools in Thailand. Here, they provided us an intensive course in interior architecture. We are trained to be professionals, making conceptual ideas and turning them into a practical project. This team is formed by our passion for always being active and finding solutions for any problems that we are interested in.

Brief information about the projects that you/your company have been involved with. For instance what scale have you focused on/preferred, any significant projects where company/ individuals have been involved?

We started considering the interior scale and then we would add detailing on the smaller scale, such as furniture pattern and other important elements that influence the design in terms of both function and aesthetics. at the same time, we couldn't ignore the overall image of the architectural design. Hence, we saw that every part of our method to create one project is important and we were determined in every step.

What does architecture mean to you and what is the role of an architect in your society?

We believe that architecture is the study of solving problems. Good observation of everything surrounding us is the key, so that we would know what should be done to find the result. The role of an architect is to figure out the best possible solutions to any problem.

Why do you participate in architecture vision competitions?

We didn't aim for any prizes or fame, but only pride in ourselves and experiences. Taking part in a competition made us aware that everything took time and energy to accomplish. This would ignite us to always be enthusiastic. We see that we had overcome ourselves into another step. No matter how the result would have ended up we had learned something new. As this competition is an international one, it pushed us to the wider world where we can evaluate ourselves on where we are and how far we will go.

What advice would you give to individuals who struggle to decide whether it would be beneficial for them to participate in architecture vision competitions?

Participating in the competition widened up our perceptions. From the point of view of design students or people who are interested in interior design, landscape design, architecture design and visualisation, architecture competitions provide us a good opportunity to challenge and announce ourselves as one of the great creatives and defeat our fears.
