We are proud to welcome four new jury members to the Buildner architecture competitions team. Between them they have a wealth of architecture knowledge and industry experience to add to our jury panel. Find out a little bit more about them and why they are going to be a great addition to our team.

John Paul Rysavy, Daniel Jacobs

John Paul Rysavy

John Paul Rysavy (pronounced Rih-sha-vee) is an Associate at SHoP Architects in New York City and Co-Director of the design partnership And-Either-Or in Austin, Texas and Brooklyn, New York. John Paul graduated with a Master of Architecture and the AIA Henry Adams Medal from the School of Architecture at The University of Texas at Austin.


John Paul then studied at l’Ecole d’Architecture Superior National de Versailles and received a Bachelor of Science in Architecture with Highest Honors from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. John Paul has received several fellowships from leading architecture universities, including the Ryerson Travelling Fellowship from the University of Illinois and the Stewardson Keefe LeBrun Fellowship from the Center for Architecture Foundation.

Having previously been a guest critic at The University of Texas at Austin, Parsons The New School of Design, City College of New York, Rhode Island School of Design, and The University of Washington in Seattle John Paul has a keen eye for design and will give our participants plenty of insights and notes on the winning designs of our future architecture competitions.

Daniel Jacobs

Daniel Jacobs is a Designer at SHoP Architects in New York City. He graduated with a Masters of Architecture from the Yale School of Architecture, where he received two Feldman Award nominations and served as Teaching Fellow in Yale College as well as in the architecture department. 

Daniel then received a Bachelors of Science in Architecture from Washington University, where he was awarded the Frederick Widmann Excellence in Architecture Prize.

Brittany Utting, Jenna Dezinski

Jenna Dezinski

Jenna Dezinski is a Lecturer at the University of Texas at Austin and project designer at alterstudio architecture in Austin, Texas. In addition, she founded Janika llc, a jewelry research, design, and fabrication company.

Jenna received a Masters of Architecture from the University of Texas at Austin, School of Architecture and a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies from Arizona State University with highest honors.; receiving the Mike and Maxine K. Mebane Endowed Traveling Scholarship in Architecture to teach and study in Italy while there. 

She has also been awarded the Mary Kolb Berglund traveling fellowship from the Dallas Center for Architecture to study in Buenos Aires and was an instructor for a Design|Build program in Buenos Aires. 

Jenna brings a unique perspective to our jury, incorporating her experience as an architect, designer and business owner to our panel in order to select the most creative and impressive designs from our entrants.

Brittany Utting

Brittany Utting is a Designer at Thomas Phifer and Partners where she is working on the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw. She earned her Master of Architecture from Yale University, receiving the Sonia Albert Schimberg Prize as the outstanding graduating woman as well as the Charles Gwathmey Scholarship for excellence in design. 

She received a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the Georgia Institute of Technology, where she graduated as a Presidential Scholar. Brittany has worked as an editorial intern for Log, Journal for Architecture and on the upcoming book Alberti Analogous (Writing Architecture Series) in addition to working as an assistant researcher in the Shape Computation Lab at Georgia Tech.

Like all of our jury members, Brittany is incredibly passionate about architecture, and her experience in research and publishing has given her a keen eye for design that she will employ to help find the best and brightest new talent in architecture. 

Our new jury members will be adding their expertise to our panel in order to help select the very best designs for our upcoming architecture competitions.
